Ashley Smith from American Idol 7-10pm $4 cover
Ashley Smith leaves an impression. You may have seen her on American Idol when she made the judges take notice in 2013. Her energy and humor is contagious, her voice a clarion call for something special about to happen. That voicewill be heard loud and clear Thursday June 9th at BLuNotes. She brings a full show to BLuNotes, complete with backup singers and band, playing two 75 minute sets.
Originally from Charlotte NC, Ashley was not aware of her southern birthplace until she decided at age 15 to leave Waldorf, MD, the only home she’d ever known to go live with a father she never knew.
Yet it was those formative years with her mother in MD, a beloved choir director who nurtured Ashley’s natural born talent by having her sing in church. Those impromptu solos got Ashley accustomed to the pressure of singing on demand in front of an audience at an early age and soon conquered her nervousness. Ashley fondly remembers the pivotal moment in her journey to being an aspiring artist was at age six posing alongside her mother in John P. Kee's music video entitled Stand back when her mother was a member of the John P. Kee Choir.
Music played a huge role in her young life, as she was a member of chorus from elementary through high school. Moving to Charlotte did not slow her path to becoming a rising star; as she won first place in several talent shows and continued to sing solos in church. As she honed her skills Ashley’s biggest musical influences became Michael Jackson, Anita Baker and Toni Braxton. She emphatically confesses " I wanted to be just like them!"
Ashley has since been a contestant on the world renown television show American Idol in 2013 for Season 12 where she wowed Nicki Minaj during Hollywood auditions. Although she had a short stint on the show it was an experience that has catapulted Ashley’s journey as an artist. The knowledge she gained has set her on a determined path to claim her place as a musical brand distinct to her range and ability to skillfully perform any genre of music- always commanding any stage she graces. On her continuous grind, Ashley embraces various platforms to build her audience and hone her craft and is currently the voice you hear everyday on the radio commercial for Hunny Bun Hair. She has also sung at various clubs around Charlotte such as NC Tavern, Indulgence, Tropix and Taste Lounge to name a few. Yet, her favorite part of the music scene is when artists come together and put on phenomenal performances in support of one another. In March 2016, Ashley performed at the 9th Annual Queen City Awards, once again wowing the audience with her debut single "Right There", now available on ITunes.
In the next five years Ashley envisions herself on every radio station [regardless of genre] singing duets with such talent as Marsha Ambrosia,India Arie and Taylor Swift and hooks for J Cole and Kendrick Lamar. Her plan is to be the most diversely eclectic artist in the industry, humbly complimented by her vibrant personality, sensual confidence and her skillful yet authentic delivery of soul felt lyrics.
Be a part of watching Ashley Smith’s rising star because she’s walking in her destiny and she’s destined to shine.
