The Brian Burton Trio with Special Guest Phillip Whack


Brian Burton is an honored graduate of the Berklee College of Music. He moved to Davidson in 2002 to tour with local act Cast Iron Filter. Since then, he has maintained a busy teaching, recording, and performing career.  He started The Brian Burton Trio in 2014 to have more opportunities to play his favorite kinds of music.  Currently, he is the contemporary musical director at Sharon United Methodist Church in Charlotte.  Brian plays and endorses Sabian cymbals and Vic Firth drumsticks.

Phillip Whack is a native of Columbia, SC.   When he first heard John Coltrane, it was that which changed his life and direction of music.  Phillip has shared the stage with a plethora of acts including; The Average White Band, Lenny Kravitz, Clarence Clemons, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Ojays, Branford Marsalis, Wycliffe Gordon, Funk legend Fred Wesley, Aretha Franklin, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and many more. Phillip has traveled the globe performing in 48 states throughout Asia, Europe, and Canada.  Phillip Whack has quickly become one of the most recognizable saxophonists in Charlotte, NC.

Charlotte legends Ron Brendle, bass, and Mark Stallings, keys, fill out the lineup.   The group will be performing music spanning the jazz idiom from post bop, funk, Latin to fusion.  Don’t miss this talented collection of musicians.
